Is is Destruction that you Require to Feel (ES2003)

November 2005

Ceramic, Limestone, Carpet tiles

BACK

Is a  time based installation piece consisting of six ceramic vessels which slowly self-destruct over the course of the exhibition. The work took place over four days as part of SEMI-PERMANENT exhibition in November 2025 at Unit 2 gallery in St Lenards.

The vessel forms are referential of ancient Grecian pottery and are roughly hand coiled before being covered in coloured slip and fired to 1000°C The limestone in the clay reacts with the air causing the pieces to expand and break apart leaving a pile of rubble.

Below is a time-lapse video of the work decomposing over the 4 days and stills from the process.
